## Action Steps:

 Step 1 Step 2 Step 3

## Step 1

### Choose a lesson plan: Find a lesson or lesson plan from one of the resources below.

- [Center for Applied Linguistics: SIOP Lesson Plans and Activities](https://www.cal.org/siop/lesson-plans/)
- [Create Center: Lessons and Materials](https://www.cal.org/create/resources/lesson-plans.html)

### Find SIOP strategies in the model:

Read the lesson and identify which SIOP components and features correspond to the activities in the lesson. You can choose to annotate the lesson plan, create a chart, make a list, or present your findings in a different manner as long as they are clear and organized.

### Improve the lesson:

Think about what the lesson is still missing, which students would still need more support, or about how this lesson would fare in your context. What revisions or additional support would improve the lesson?

Add at least one meaningful revision to the lesson plan to enhance student learning. This can take shape in several ways. For instance, you can:

- add in an activity
- if the lesson plan has a description, but no materials, you can develop a set of materials that are responsive to students’ needs
- Layer in strategies to increase [comprehensible input](https://web.colby.edu/ed376-spring2018/files/2017/01/Echevarri%CC%81a-SIOP-Model-Chapter-4.pdf) (you may also want to see the section on supplementary materials in [this chapter](https://www.pearsonhighered.com/assets/samplechapter/0/1/3/2/0132689723.pdf) for ideas) such as sentence stems, visuals, charts, realia, gestures, etc.

## Step 2

### **Be sure to link your work and documents in the [capstone](https://dimensions.gse.harvard.edu/capstone) project:**

## Step 3

### Reflection: Answer the following questions on a Capstone slide

1. Thinking about the lesson: Write a brief reflection on the task using the following questions as guidelines. You can choose one or all questions, or parts from each question. (150-250 words total)

    1. How did the use of SIOP components and features make the lesson more comprehensible? \[Consider reviewing this chapter on [comprehensible input](https://web.colby.edu/ed376-spring2018/files/2017/01/Echevarri%CC%81a-SIOP-Model-Chapter-4.pdf), if needed.\]
    2. What further revisions or additional support would improve the lesson? Why and for whom?
2. Takeaways: You can choose one or all questions, or parts from each question. (200-250 words)

    1. What was your most significant take away from the assignment? What did you find interesting and useful?
    2. What was most challenging in the task? How did you overcome that challenge?
    3. How will you apply your learning to practice?
    4. To learn more, what might your next steps be?
    5. How would you improve on your current product in the future?
